Why do you think the author waited so long after leaving Cuba before he wrote this book?

We can infer that as an adult, Eire found the need to share his story, realizing the importance of his experience and the importance of that experience as a piece of history..... a primary source that provides the history not as it was perceived.... but as it was lived.
