How does the author use foreshadowing in Violets Are Blue?

Chapters Two and Three carry a lot of foreshadowing. Though this case gets Cross involved in the murders, officials quickly discover that the crime spree started some time ago. The killers' identities remain hidden, but their actions reveal some of their lifestyle choice as vampires.
