Field Marshall v. Kleist commanded Army Group A, when it occupied part of the Caucasus region. He failed to extend the occupation throughout all the Caucacus, and when finally forced to retreat, he was barely was able to get Army Group A out of the enemy encirclement. Kleist was later removed from his command by Hitler.
