Aunt Cordelia holds her father responsible for Uncle Haskell's problems. Uncle Haskell (Aunt Cordelia's brother), was detested by his father and constantly badged over what his father perceived were his shortcomings. He spent his life trying to be good enough..... but he never succeeded. As a result, Uncle Haskell was a broken man, who turned to alcohol.
