The story is written in an informal style. The action flows quickly so the reader remains engaged throughout the book. The majority of the book is presented in first person from the perspective of Jacky Faber. She has a very relaxed attitude with regard to speech and uses words such as "ain't" throughout the story. Jackie was educated at a posh girls' school which means she knows how to speak properly and she does so when it suits her.
