Az and Maddy from Uglies are the parents of david and the doctors who turn the uglies into pretties on their 16th birthdays. while doing these operations they discovered leasons on their patients brains, these were intentionally planted there to keep the pretties "docile". They left the city and founded the smoke to keep reaserching.
