Which parts of Northup’s autobiography do you think would have most 
affected white readers and why?

It is difficult to speak for all white readers: that is a pretty big generalization to make. I think all readers, no matter what ethnicity, would have similar emotions at various parts in the book. The scene where slave children are sold away from their mothers would be especially disturbing to anyone.
