In the novel, Tuesdays with Morrie, it becomes evident through the narrator's interaction with Morrie that society is too wrapped up in itself to notice others. Technology and speed have replaced common decency in many instances, and in others has made the fine art of casual converastion nearly extinct. It also illustrates a shifting away from those things that are of true value.
