Tuesdays with Morrie

What does Morrie mean when he says, “...detachment doesn’t mean you don’t let the experience penetrate you. On the contrary, you let it penetrate you fully. That’s how you are able to leave it.” (P.103)

Morrie is explaining that detachment isn't a negative thing. One can enjoy an experience fully but not become depressed when the experience is over. If the experience is bad, one is able to leave it.
