The Tuck and Foster homes are quite different and it is through the description of these homes that the reader also gains important and interesting impressions of the two families. The Tuck home is a ***** type of chaos; dishes stacked everywhere, a thin layer of dust here and there. A definite 'lived-in' look. The Foster home, however, is just the opposite. Every corner of that home is organized, hospital clean, and it's obvious that there is an atmosphere of control and order.

Tuck were not that rich but they had a decent home next to a pond. The Fosters were quite wealthy, had a big beautiful home but it was not welcoming.
