Shapewear

Shapewear is an important object that is referenced in the chapter “Always be Optimizing”. Tolentino characterizes it as twenty-first century corseting because of the way it completely reshapes a woman’s body underneath her clothing. The new generation’s fixation on shapewear indicates a transition in our culture towards prioritizing physical appearance and optimizing our body image through suffocating clothing.
