Saskatchewan is the second place that Ken hikes through and it is where he eventually transitions out of Canada and into the United States. Saskatchewan epitomizes the Northern prairie and will eventually highlight the similarities and differences between the Canadian Great Plains and the American. Saskatchewan is where Ken's hike begins to get some broader recognition and it is where he meets up with the journalism team from the CBC. Thus, Saskatchewan represents the potential for there to be broader interest in Ken's cause and a greater awareness of the issues surrounding the pipeline. However, because Ken deemphasizes his environmentalism in his interview with a major national news network, Saskatchewan also represents a missed opportunity for his cause.
