The tone of "Tracks" changes often, but it is always a pleasure to read. Robyn tells her story in a frank, honest way, not trying to make people sound nicer or stronger than they really are. As she describes many of her close friendships, she always talks about how warm Australian friendships can be. Her story is often humorous, as she describes anecdotes of living among animals and often her details are bawdy. Sometimes the tone is very sad, for she faces many obstacles along the way and often has to start over.
