"Clay had come to love the beauty of a quiet life after violent battles and after learning how the Japanese can see beauty in even the simplest things. The beauty had kept his mind off of all the horrible times fighting in world War 2, and the ugliness.

Does this explain the life lesson, "the beauty in ordinary things can distract us during our worst times and provide us with hope?"
