What is the setting of Tobacco Road by Erskine Caldwell?

The novel is set in Georgia. The majority of the novel takes place on the Lester farm, just off the Tobacco Road. The tobacco road is a road that was built on what was once a plantation in order to move the tobacco from the fields to the river without getting it wet or otherwise ruining its potential at market.
