Why does Calpurnia tell Scout to be more ladylike?

She says that people don't like to be made to feel inferior and that telling all that you know all of the time makes people feel badly. It isn't ladylike to make people feel that way. She also insinuates that people will like her better and she'll have a better life if she'll adopt some of the ladylike manners that are expected of her.
