Boo radley stayed inside because he wanted to. Because of all the rumors and speculations about him he is an outcast. In the end of the book when Bob Ewell attacks Jem and Scout Arthur Radley comes to the rescue and stabbs Bob. Bob Ewell Broke Jem's arm like depicted in the beginning of the book.
