The realize that the idyllic little town of Maycomb isn't all that innocent and sweet. They see neighbors, teachers, doctors, people in the community divided over the issue of basic decency and human rights. In the end, the children mature as they begin to see the reality of the times in which they live. They have to decide in their own minds whom they believe....their father or the town.
