Calpurnia plays many roles in To Kill a Mockingbird. She not only raises the children and gives them a strong moral and ethical base, but she also opens their eyes to the truth about the African American community. They are able to see for themselves how things really are.
As a result they are able to see the prejudice and injustice that exists in their community and their culture.
