What is the author's style in Till We Have Faces by C. S. Lewis?

Till We Have Faces, is a retelling of the Greek myth of Cupid and Psyche.In his author's note, C. S. Lewis explains Apulius' Metamorphoses is a source for Till We Have Faces, not an influence or model; therefore, he omits picaresque, horror-comedy, mystagogous and pornographic elements. Appropriately, Lewis fills it with quaint phrasing and made-up vocabulary, which infuse a mythic flavor.
