Sound of Running Feet disagrees with her father's opinion on the Blue Coats, feeling that they cannot be reasoned with. She becomes more and more disappointed in her father's trusting nature, finally choosing not to comply with his surrender and setting off for the Old Lady's Country alone with Swan Necklace. I don't think Chief Joseph likes the Blur Coats but he might trust them too much. Chief Joseph has the respect of all his people and especially of the warriors, however his trusting nature makes him a liability during the war against the Blue Coats, for his warriors are eager to kill and he is prone to recommend patience and peace rather than battle. His trust of the Blue Coats more often than not is proven misplaced, as he is alternately betrayed, taken prisoner, and forced to surrender the fate of his people to the decision-making powers of the Blue Coats.
