The fact that the women have no names suggests that while they are individualized characters, they are also archetypes, or representatives of universal human traits or states of being. This means that on a symbolic level, A represents all of the elderly; upset and bewildered at the loss of physical and mental faculties. B represents the middle aged; experienced with the world and with life. C represents the young with their narrow, inexperienced perspectives.
