Importance of cooking

Cooking symbolizes misplaced passions. Owen’s true passion is cooking, but he works as a firefighter due to a sense of penance and loyalty towards his father. Owen wrongly blames himself for causing the death of his father’s brother. A major element of Owen’s character arc is when he is able to forgive himself, quit firefighting, and become a chef.
