Okonkwo's is devastated by the decision that Ikemefuna is sentenced to death. Over time, the boy has become like a son to him. Okonkwo's pride, however, leads him to take part in the boy's death, he cannot be seen as weak, so he delivers the final death blow. As a result, he must live with the guilt of his actions, as he has killed a child who was like his own son..... and a boy who was like a brother to his son, Nwoye, with whom, Okonkow's relationship is ruined.
