Who is Gunnbjorn Lundergaart from The Zombie Survival Guide and what is their importance?

In the year, 1253, Lundergaart is credited with creating a colony in Greenland. When he returns to the colony and finds all the inhabitants dead and seemingly replaced by zombies, he orders himself killed and everything burned to the ground.
