In Rawlings' novel, The Yearling, Jody remarks that women come in 'breeds' like dogs. He makes this comparison because he is realizing that not all women are alike in their personalities and desires. In one respect, he is correct and it is a part of his growing up that he realizes that not all people are the same, even girls. On the other hand, the fact that he compares them to dogs shows that he may view women as 'lesser' than the men (which would have been the prevailing sentiment for this time period).
