In The Yearling, it isn't that he is grossed out so much but that the Forresters freely passed around Moonshine to everyone. Jody abstains, but is shocked that booze would be freely offered to everyone. He is also astonished at the wealth of the food on the table, as he thought that the Forresters were very poor.
