Throughout most of the book, which is really a compendium of scattered speeches, letters, elegies, and philosophical ruminations, there is a consistency of tone that is one of passionate but reasoned pleading. Einstein presents facts from his own experience and interprets them in light of his own personality and the time in which he lives.
