Although James and his father have had a fraught relationship in the past, his father never gives up on Bowen. Indeed, the two regularly meet for drinks. Bowen does not fault his father for his past. Although his parents' divorce did impact him, he appreciates his father's grace and love. When he receives his book advance, he even entrusts the money to his father's care.
