Anne of Cleves was Henry's fourth wife. She was born in the territory of Cleves, a small territory between Spain and France, which is now a part of Germany. Anne spoke Dutch, and her marriage to Henry was arranged through mediators. Upon meeting Anne, King Henry is said to have announced that he was unhappy with her appearance and found her unsatisfactory. The couple, none-the-less, married her anyway. Their marriage lasted last less than six months and was never consummated. Anne remained in England, and after their divorce, ahd and Henry went on to have a longstanding friendship.
