I think home is single important theme to the story. Like most children’s literature, The Wind in the Willows has a didactic purpose. In many ways, it works to impart an appreciation for domesticity and place. Home means security, purpose, and identity. Adventures are fun but there must always be the safety and security of home and friends to return to. All the characters come to appreciate this: even the reckless Toad. Your last question is asking for your opinion rather than mine. I personally like the theme of home. Home gives a sense of identity, safety, and purpose that human beings need. It is a rough world out there and people need a place to feel safe and secure at the end of the day.
