How does the author use foreshadowing in The Widening Gyre?

Foreshadowing is not applicable to the text. Maintaining a constant point of view allows Parker to control the knowledge and foresight of the reader. If the reader only knows as much as Spenser knows, then it is difficult to solve the case before Spenser himself does.
