He was trying to get her to see that there was hope in each new beginning but she only saw the bleek in her circumstances. He hoped to help her find the salvation of rebirth but he felt she was determined to find only destructive forces as she had not found the fullfillment that she was seeking. It is the equivalent of taking a quadreplegic out into a sunlit day and knowing she would only see thorns and scorching or showing a person bent on self destruction that life comes from death only to have them see only the dieing and choosing to be succumbed by the darkness and not the rebirth.
