How does the author use foreshadowing in The Wanderer?

The author uses foreshadowing in in Sophie's stories...... all of her stories about Bompie are true, except for one. The story of Bompie's family being lost at sea foreshadows Sophie's acceptance that the story isn't actually Bompie's..... it is hers.
