What is an example of foreshadowing in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's, The Valley of Fear?

One example of foreshadowing can be found when Douglas makes references to Bodymaster McGinty and the Valley of Fear in his delerium. These references foreshadow both the attempt made on his life, as well as the exposure of the mystery of the Scowrers.
