Authority, as a theme, addresses Sherlock Holmes intellect, capability, and efficiency, and the way these traits empower him. The Scowrers, however, find their power (authority) through more deleterious means, such as threats, terror, and murder. Unlike Holmes, the Scrower's authority is based on violence and maintained by force.
