Neither: It explores the mystery of the kind of exists in that mystical half life when you are neither awake nor asleep. That completely intact universe that vanishes into a vacuum as soon as you realise that you are awake. When one is under the influence of this amazing half asleep, all kinds of realities can exist side by side with the normal universe. One's mind creates a whole world that seems as though it is real. "The Unconsoled" explores this alternative reality in a Kafkaesque (as in The Trial) manner. And for me, my favourite novel by my favourite author...
