The gold ring is a symbol of love and bravery. Faustina gives Alina her gold wedding ring as a promise that Alina and Tomasz will marry and that they will be as happy together as she and Bartuk have been during their marriage. Alina carries this ring with her when she and Saul escape Poland so she will have it when it is time for her to marry Tomasz.

When Alina and Saul are almost turned away from the military camp where they were to wait for Tomasz to arrive, Alina used this gold ring to barter for a place for both her and Saul in the camp.
