Mirror neurons are a specific type of neuron located in various regions of the primate brain. In all primates, mirror neurons fire when an action is performed and when watching another individual perform that action, which allows for mimicry. In humans, after a mirror neuron fires while watching an action, other mirror neurons that correspond to an anticipated following action will also fire. Ramachandran believes that this is the basis for the human ability to predict intent.
