The Stranger

When does "The Stranger" take place? Why doesnt Meursault visit his mother in the nursing home more often? Was it strange that Meursaults mother wanted a religious burial?

There are so many questions that do not make sense.

It takes place before WWII. Mersault feels no emotional attachment to anyone and probably doesn't care about his mother. It's strange because shes so much diffrent from Mersault.
