Describe symbolism in The Stranger by Albert Camus

There are many symbols in this story. One is the crucifix. Of course this is a religious symbol but it also represents man's rationalization of his world and the afterlife. Meursault rejects the idea that he must accept any notion of God or an afterlife to make sense of his life and the world.
