The Populist movement was nationwide in the late 1800's, primarily in support of the common man, specifically the small farmer and laborer. Populists believed that the majority of Americans were largely ignored in a country focusing on industry, commerce, growth and the rise of powerful big business conglomerates that largely controlled Washington.
