What is Island?

The island symbolizes the Strange Bird’s mental landscape. This symbol is used to display the Strange Bird’s emotions and mental state. When the island freezes over, the Strange Bird is in emotional distress as even Charlie X and the Old Man sneak up on her island. Also, the sea turning into a chessboard shows how the Strange Bird feels manipulated by the Magician.
