The over all tone of the story The Son of Neptune is brooding. Many of the events leave a damper and brooding mood wioth all the characters to show that they might be losing the battle and to bring forth a sense of urgency. The story happens to have bright under tones to it so as not to bore the reader with all the doom-and-gloom.
