The Sniper

The sniper is described as a fanatic. A fanatic is a person whose interest in something or someone is irrational and intense. What is the sniper fanatical about? What does the author's use of the phrase "cold gleam" imply?

The sniper is fanatical about the destruction of the Free State forces, who as a Republican, believed they'd betrayed their country through their acceptance of the Anglo-Irish Treaty. The cold gleam impiles his intent and purpose..... the purpose of murder and eliminating the oppostion.
