Simon is a centuries old vampire who has begun to realize that he may still have some shred of humanity left in him. At first he is so removed from human concerns that it seems as if he is merely an observer to the actions going on around him. When he observes Zoe something in him stirs and he feels compassion for her and her situation (he's lost his own mother in the past). It is through Zoe that he begins to reunite with his human nature and must confront the horrific acts he's perpetrated as a vampire.
