Why did Wilson threaten Macomber's personal boy with lashes?

Macomber's personal boy knew that he had run away from the wounded lion earlier in the day and that Wilson had saved him. When he was setting the table for Macomber to eat he looked curiously at Wilson. Wilson threatened him with lashes for not looking lively. Which actually meant that he was in trouble for not serving Macomber respectfully.
