The novel is written clearly and with few uses of poetic language. However, the reader learns most about the actions and plot line from dialogue between the characters rather than internal dialogue. While internal dialogue is certainly used, the reader is left to wonder why Penelope makes some of the decisions that she does until her actions are revealed through conversations between the characters later.
