Who is Edmund "Bunny" Corcoran from The Secret History and what is their importance?

Edmund "Bunny" Corcoran is the student who is murdered by the rest of the group. Corcoran pretends to be rich, although he survives by mooching off his friends, particularly Winter. He is described as pompous, loud and arrogant, yet people tend to like him.
