In The Sea of Monsters, Grover tells Percy that he's tricked the Cyclops into thinking that he's a female Cyclops but that this ruse is only going to last so long, then it will be ugly. He tells him that he's created a sympathetic link with Percy and that it was the only way to reach Percy. The downside is that this link will allow Percy to feel what Grover feels.
